The Edward R. Vandervoort Memorial Award has been awarded annually since 1953 to someone who is neither a current MSU athlete nor current MSU coach; has done much to advance the status of athletic teams representing schools/colleges within his/her surrounding community; and exemplifies community encouragement for the finest things in an athletic endeavor. The award is named in honor of Edward Vandervoort of Lansing who contributed so many fine services to athletics in the Greater Lansing area.
The 2009 Edward R. Vandervoort Memorial Award goes to Henry Bullough, shown here with Van Martin, grandson of Edward R. Vandervoort (Bullough on left).
Bullough has been an avid supporter of Michigan State athletics and has been involved with fund raising efforts for Special Olympics, Salvation Army, National Boys Club, YMCA and the Michigan State Football Players Association. He currently serves on fund raising committees for the George Webster Memorial Scholarship Fund and John Shinsky's City of Children Orphanage Fund.
A former player and assistant coach at Michigan State, Bullough has spoken at numerous high schools on the "Say No to Drugs" program. He has also been a guest lecturer at several football clinics around the country. Bullough resides in Okemos with his wife Lou Ann.
